Question: Should I Buy a Rail Pass?

If you are traveling to many destinations in Japan by trains, buses, and ferries, consider buying a rail pass.

  • Before You Buy a Rail Pass
  • How to Get a Japan Rail Pass

Answer: There are the Japan Rail Pass and other regional rail passes, such as Hokkaido Rail Pass, Kyushu Rail Pass, and so on.

First, make a list of rail passes you are interested in buying. Write down the prices.

Second, determine how much it costs if you buy individual tickets to your destinations, using the Japanese Train Route Finder by Jorudon Co., Ltd.

Then, compare the total to prices of rail passes. Now, you know whether you should buy a rail pass or not.
