Notes:
Heian Jingu is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Kanmu and Emperor Komei. The main gate (Oten-mon) and other buildings are smaller-scale replicas of buildings in the first imperial palace. Four Japanese-style gardens are located around the shrine buildings. Well-known Jidai Matsuri Festival is held in Oct.
There are about 150 sakura trees in the gardens. The kind of cherry blossoms here are pink weeping cherry blossoms called beni-shidare-zakura. Cherry blossom viewing tea ceremonies are held at the tea house in the garden.
