Since Japan is surrounded by oceans, there are so many beaches. Swimming beaches are called kaisui-yokujo, and most of them are open July to August although the opening period vary depending on location. Seaside rest houses called umi-no-ie are commonly constructed on major kaisui-yokujo during the summer. Below is a list of popular locations.

Shirarahama Kaisuiyokujo, Wakayama
It's a white sandy beach located in Nanki Shirahama Onsen (hot springs) resort.
Location: Shirarahama Shirahama-cho Nishimuro-gun, Wakayama
Access: 5 minutes by taxi or 15 minutes by bus from JR Kinokuni Line Shirahama Station, or 15 minuts bybus from Nanki Shirahama Airport to Shirahama Onsen.

Emerald Beach, Okinawa
It's a beach in the west coast of Okinawa Main Island (Okinawa Honto) with emerald green ocean. It's created in Okinawa Kaiyohaku Koen where the famous Churaumi Aquarium is located.

Shirahama Ohama Kaisuiyokujo, Shizuoka
It's a 800m long white sand beach located along the east coast of Izu Peninsula. It's located about 80miles southwest of central Tokyo.

Shimao Kaisuiyokujo, Toyama
It's located along the Toyama Bay, facing the Sea of Japan.

Wadaura Kaisuiyokujo, Chiba
It's a white sand beach located in southern Boso Peninsula in about 50 miles southeast of central Tokyo.

It's a beautiful beach near Aoshima Island along the east coast of Kyushu.

Kikugahama Kaisuiyokujo, Yamaguchi
It's a white sand beach, facing the Sea of Japan. It's located east of the ruins of Hagi-jo Castle.

It's a beach located near the border between Niigata and Yamagata prefectures, facing theSea of Japan.

Gennadai Kaihin Koen (Seashore Park), Hokkaido
It's surrounded by breakwaters and is called "ocean pool". It's located in the west coast of southern Hokkaido, facing the Sea of Japan.
