Hamarikyu Onshi Teien (Hamarikyu Garden)

Admission: 300 yen for adults (-64) and children (middle school age - )

Hamarikyu means a detached palace on the coast in Japanese. It was built in 18th century on the coast. The main feature of this garden is shioirinoike which is a tidal pond. There is a tea house located in the middle of the pond.

Kiyosumi Teien (Kiyosumi Garden)

Address: 3-3-9 Kiyosumi Koto-ku
Access: 3 minute walk from Tokyo Subway Kiyosumi-shirakawa Station
Hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (admission until 4:30 p.m.)
Admission: 150 yen for adults (-64) and children (middle school age - )
70 yen for seniors (65 - )
Free for small children

This garden is created during Meiji Period. Many famous rocks are brought here from around the country and placed in the garden.

Koishikawa Korakuen Garden

Address: 1-chome Koraku Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo
Access: 2 minute walk from Tokyo Subway Oedo Line Iidabashi Station
8 minute walk from Tokyo Subway Tozaki/Yurakucho/Nanboku Lines Iidadashi Station

Koichikawa Korakuen Garden was constructed in the 17th century, and one of the oldest gardens in Tokyo. It's built around a pond, featuring Chinese landscapes.

Kokyo Higashi-gyoen (Imperial Palace East Garden)

It's also within walking distance from Tokyo Station. It's a nice plate to take a walk. There are about 50 plum trees here. Beautiful pink and white plum blossoms attract lots of visitors in early spring.

Kyu Furukawa-teien (Former Furukawa Residence Garden)

Access: 7 minute walk from JR Kaminakazato Station or Tokyo Subway Nishigahara Station
Hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (admission until 4:30 p.m.)
Admission: 150 yen for adults (-64) and children (middle school age - )

Free for small children

Visitors can enjoy both Japanese-style and Western-style gardens here. It features beautiful rose gardens.

Kyu Iwasaki-tei Teien (Former Iwasaki Residence Garden)

10 minute walk from Tokyo Subway Ueno-Hirokoji Station or Ueno-Okachimachi Station

Visitors can enjoy both Japanese-style and Western-style buildings and gardens.

Kyu Shibarikyu Onshi Garden

It's another Japanese garden built in the Edo Period and became Hamarikyu (the Shiba detached palace) in 1875.

Mukoujima Hyakkaen Garden

Address: 3-18-3 Higashi-mukoujima Sumida-ku, Tokyo

It's a flower garden created during the Edo Period. Hyakkaen literally means a garden with a hundred flowers.

Rikugien Garden

Address: 6-16-3 Honkomagome Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo

It's a traditional Japanese garden built during the Edo Period.

Shinjuku Gyoen

Address: 11 Naito-cho Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Admission: 200 yen (adults) / 50 yen (elementary and middle school students)
Admission Hours: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Closed on Mondays
*except during the cherry blossom season (March 25-April 24) and the Chrisanthemum season (November 1-15)

The garden is a blend of French, English, and Japanese-styles with about 20,000 trees. Shinjuku Gyoen is a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in spring.
