By JR Tokaido Line local train, it takes about one hour from Tokyo Station or 35 minutes from Yokohama Station to Hiratsuka Station.

Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival is one of the most popular tanabata festivals in Japan, and a couple million people visit this festival every year. The city is filled with thousands of bamboo decorations. Go to the Shonan Star Mall Street, to see large tanabata decorations. They are illuminated at night. A few Tanabata parades takes place during this festival.
