Sanja Matsuri Festival is one of the three greatest Shinto festivals in Tokyo alongside Kanda Matsuri and Sanno Matsuri. Over a million people visit this festivall every year.
The main features of the festival are parades of mikoshi (portable shrines) on the streets from the Asakusa Shrine.

May 15, 2009
1 p.m. -
Parade - floats with people performing traditional Japanese music and dances.
May 16, 2009
Noon -
Mikoshi Parade (Chonai Mikoshi Rengou Togyo) - about a hundred of mikoshi leave the Asakusa Shrine and parade through the streets.
May 17, 2009
6 a.m. -
Mikoshi Parade (Honsha Mikoshi Kakucho Togyo) - three large mikoshi leave the Asakusa Shrine and parade through the town and return between 7:30p.m. and 8:30p.m.
