Matsumae Koen is selected as one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Japan. About 250 kinds of 10,000 sakura trees are here. Various sakura bloom in different times, so visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms for about a month. During Matsumae Cherry Blossom Festival, paper lanterns are hung around the park, and Matsumae Castle is illuminated at night.
