Mount Takao in Brief:
Takaosan, Mount Takao, is a 599 high mountain located in Hachio-ji-city, Tokyo. It's a popular hiking spot which can be reached by train within one hour from the center of Tokyo.
Access:
Approximately 50 minutes by Keio Line train from Shinjuku Station to Takaosan-guchi Station. Or, go to JR Takao Station by JR Chuo Line train and transfer to the Keio Line and go to Takaosan-guchi Station.
Hiking Trails:
Mount Takao has 8 hiking trails. From the mountain peak, Mt. Fuji can be viewed on clear days.

Yakuo-in Temple:
Yakuo-in Temple is located halfway up the mountain and can be reached by cable car or by lift. It's founded over 1,200 years ago and attracts many worshippers all year round.
Access:
Take the cable car from Kiyotaki Station to Takaosan Station, and 20 minute walk to the temple. Or, take the lift from Sanroku Station to Sanjo Station, and 12 minutes walk to the temple.

Near the cable car Takaosan Station, there are an observatory, a monkey park, and a botanical garden to visit. Mount Takao is a place to enjoy nature near Tokyo. You should expext large crowds on the weekends.
