Free Guided Tours:
To visit the Kyoto Imperial Palace, it's required to apply for approval from the Imperial Household Agency in advance, except the special days in spring and fall when the Kyoto Imperial Palace is open to the public.
Application for Visit
Tours in English are available at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on weekdays. A tour takes about one hour and starts from Seishomon-gate. One-hour tours in Japanese are available at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. 35 minute tours in Japanese are conducted at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Tours aren't conducted on Saturdays, Sundays, and National holidays, except Saturdays in April, May, October, and November, and Saturdays which are holidays, and third Saturday of month. Also, tours aren't available from December 28 to January 4 and special occasions. Tours on Saturdays are only conducted in Japanese.

Note:
Kyoto Imperial Palace (Kyoto Gosho) is located in the Kyoto Gyoen Park. The current palace was rebuilt in 1855. Emperor Meiji had lived here until the imperial capital was moved to Tokyo in 1869.
The main buildings in the palace are Shishinden Hall, Seiryoden Hall, and Kogosho.
