Sasaki belonged to the Yokohama Bay Stars (changed from Yokohama Taiyo Whales), one of Japanese professional baseball teams, from 1990 to 1999 season.
Sasaki signed with Seattle Mariners in December 1999, and he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 season by having saved 37 games for the Mariners. His nickname is "Daimajin", which means "big demon".
