Ume (Asian plums) blossoms can be viewed from late January to March in Honshu region, Japan. White or pink ume blossoms are beautiful in gardens, parks, shrines and temples, and more. Visit ume festivals held all over in Japan.

  • Yushima Tenmangu Shrine Ume Festival
    Early Feb. - Early March
    Location: 3-30-1 Yushima Bunkyo-ku Tokyo
    Access: Tokyo Metro Yushima Station

  • Atami Baien Ume Festival
    Mid. Jan. - Mid. March
    Location: Atami-city, Shizuoka
    Access: Take a walk from JR Ito Line Kinomiya Station or take a bus from JR Atami Station to Baien-mae Bus Stop.
    Website: Atami Baien (Japanese version)
    There are about 800 plum trees in the garden. There are various events held on Saturdays and Sundays during the festival.

  • Mito Kairaku-en Garden Ume Festival
    Late Feb. - Late March
    Location: Mito-city, Ibaraki
    Access: Take a bus from JR Joban Line Mito Station to Kairakuen-iriguchi Bus Stop.
    Website: Kairaku-en Garden (Japanese version)
    Mito Kairakuen is one the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. The ninth Mito Clan Lord, Nariaki Tokugawa created this park in 1841. This 13-hectare park has 3,000 plum trees of 100 varieties, so you can view pink and white blossoms all over.

  • Yoshino Baigou Ume Festival
    Late Feb. - Late March
    Location: Oume-city, Tokyo
    Access: JR Oume Line Hinatawada Station and Futamatao Station
    Yoshino Baigou is the area from the Hinatawada Station to the Futamatao Station where about 25,000 plum trees are planted.

  • Soga Bairin Odawara Plum Blossom Festival
    Early Feb. - Early March
    Location: Odawara-city, Kanagawa
    Access: JR Shimosoga Station
    Soba Bairin consists of three plum gardens; Nakagawara, Hara, and Bessho. There are about 35,000 plum trees in this area.

  • Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Ume Festival
    Early Feb. - Mid March
    Location: Kyoto-city, Kyoto
    Access: Take a Kyoto City Bus #50 or #101 from JR Kyoto Station to Kitano Tenmangu-mae Stop.
    Website: Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
    There are 2,000 plum trees of 50 varieties. The shrine is filled with pink and white plum blossoms.

  • Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Ume Festival
    Early Feb. - Mid March
    Location: Dazaifu-city, Fukuoka
    Access: Nishi Nihon Testudo Train Dazaifu Station
    Website: Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
    There are 6,000 plum trees.
