Learn simple steps for eating sushi before you go to Japan.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Vary
Here's How:
- Wash your hands or clean your hands using oshibori (wet towel) if provided.
- Put soy sauce for dipping in a small plate. It's recommended not to put too much soy sauce in the plate. It's better to add as you need it.
- Sushi can be eaten using chopsticks, but it's commonly eaten by hand. When you eat nigiri-zushi (hand-pressed sushi), pick up one sushi piece between your thumb and middle finger, putting the index finger on the sushi.
- Lightly dip the sushi topping side into the soy sauce. If you dip a whole sushi piece into the soy sauce, the rice tends to fall apart.
- Bring the sushi to your mouth.
