How To Eat Sushi

From , former About.com Guide

Learn simple steps for eating sushi before you go to Japan.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Vary

Here's How:

  1. Wash your hands or clean your hands using oshibori (wet towel) if provided.
  2. Put soy sauce for dipping in a small plate. It's recommended not to put too much soy sauce in the plate. It's better to add as you need it.
  3. Sushi can be eaten using chopsticks, but it's commonly eaten by hand. When you eat nigiri-zushi (hand-pressed sushi), pick up one sushi piece between your thumb and middle finger, putting the index finger on the sushi.
  4. Lightly dip the sushi topping side into the soy sauce. If you dip a whole sushi piece into the soy sauce, the rice tends to fall apart.
  5. Bring the sushi to your mouth.
