Cherry Blossoms in Okinawa

Cherry blossoms have begun to flower in Okinawa. One of Japan's earliest cherry blossom festivals, Yaedake Sakura Matsuri, has been held from January 15 to February 6, 2011. at Yaedake Sakuranomori Park in Motobu-town. There are thousands of sakura trees in Mt. Yaedake, and the kind of sakura trees found here is kan-higan-zakura which blooms pink flowers. It's a nice place to take a walk, viewing the cherry blossoms. The peak flowering is expected from late January to early February. Motobu-town is located in the northern region of the mainland of Okinawa near Nago-city.
