Asahiyama Zoo in Asahikawa-city, Hokkaido is known for its unique facilities which allow visitors to observe interesting characteristics of each species and attracts more than 2 million visitors per year. One of the reasons to visit the zoo during the winter is to see the penguins walk on the snow. The zoo holds the walks to help their penguins get some exercise from mid December through mid March in 2010.
