Tanabata - Japanese Star Festival

Japanese Tanabata Photo (c) Shizuko MishimaTanabata is a Japanese summer festival celebrated on July 7th or August 8th, depending on regions. People traditionally write their wishes on tanzaku papers and hang them on colorfully decorated bamboo branches. Tanabata can be observed in many cities and towns throughout Japan. Tanabata is definitely one of my favorite festivals out of the whole year! The city I live in has one of the more famous festivals in all of Japan, so it’s fun to mingle with the thousands of visitors, sample the great food, and watch the performances.

Tanabata festival is one interesting festival in Japan. In big cities, shops and foods sells on the streets, thousands of people walking behind wearing kimono and big and huge streamers makes the festival so colorful.
