Best Arts and Crafts Destinations

Where do you think is the best place in Japan to enjoy arts? A traveler to Japan wants your suggestions. "I am planning a trip mid-October to Japan and because I am a mixed-media artist, I am interested in viewing modern art museums and places that demonstrate arts and crafts such as paper making and raku pottery. I have approximately 8 days and have identified Kyoto as my best bet and also Kanazawa... am I leaving out an area of Japan that is rich in arts and crafts besides Kyoto or Kanazawa?"
