Koromogae

You probably begin to notice more people wear light-colored clothes at beginning of June in Japan. There is a Japanese custom called koromogae. It means seasonal changes of school clothes, work clothes, or wardrobe storage at home. Koromogae officially takes place on June 1 and October 1. This custom originated in the seasonal change of kimono took place in the Heian Period imperial court. Around koromogae day, Japanese students and workers change their uniforms from winter to summer clothes and vice versa. Related Content:
