New Sushi Go Round
Friday August 22, 2008
I went to a kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant called Kappazushi (Japanese sushi restaurant chain) in Japan. Last time I was there, we ordered sushi through the intercom. Now, touch panels were set at the tables, and there were two-story conveyor
belt systems in the restaurant. Sushi plates circle around the eating area on the bottom conveyor belt like before. When we wanted to order what we couldn't find on the conveyor belt, we used the touch panel. The screen showed pictures of food, so ordering was simple. After a while, food plates were delivered on miniature Shinkansen trays which run on the top conveyor belt at high speed. We took food plates from the Shinkansen trays, then pressed the button to send the empty trays back. It's such a fun system, and we had a good time in the restaurant.

I love these restaurants. I was visiting in Anjo-Mikawa outside of Nagoya and my friends have two young children. We went there for sushi twice. I found it interesting that the various sushi come on different colored plates and each sushi plate has a different value depending on the color. When we were finished eating a waiter came and counted the different plates and gave us a bill. I would recommend this type of restaurant to anyone who enjoys sushi.
My experience was at a sushi-go-round in Tokorozowa, Saitama perfecture. I sat in amazment over the ease of this operation. I wish these restaurants would come to the USA!
Not only are the places popular, but it’s a great way to take a walk on the wild side… and try something you wouldn’t ordinarily order- like eel! I never thought I’d try it, but to my amazement, I was pleased.
