Well, this is a wonderful way to promote tourism in Japan. I was there in May and had a great time, but I wonder if I’ll be back at this point. I spent a week in Buenos Aires and, quite frankly, though the flight is worse, the stay would be better. I don’t like the idea of being fingerprinted just for going on vacation! Why would I want to be treated as a criminal? A short interview, facial scan, fingerprinting. What a way to treat a guest.
what is this world coming to? whats wrong with japan? are they so obsessed on being american that they are forgetting themselves?
Yes this is what the world is coming to. We will all have to get used to it because it’s just the beginning. I am a regular visitor to Japan and they think ahead of everyone else. Also, they like the French much more than the Americans. It has not been my experience that they emulate Americans.
I think is more than fare to control every single person that lands in japan and fingerprint them… it is not japans fault, but the way the world is being treated… (Eric), who in japan know you are a tourist?? Nobody, and I dont think a terrorist o a murder goes dressed as Bin Laden, do they??
Good move from Japan and I totally agree. I think the world should do the same, int hat way we would avoid fake passports, terrorism, murderes, peodophiles and other criminals just running away to another countries to hide their crime!! It is not an insult to be controlled…whoever feels that way i think there is a lack of self confidence!!! FINGERPRINT THEM ALL JAPAN AND KEEP THE COUNTRY SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL AS IT IS! Most American’s would probably take exception to being treated this way as we’re not used to it. We enjoy our freedoms and rights and hate when we have to suspend them for something we may believe is trivial or unnecessary. However Japan is not America, and as the saying goes “when in Rome”. And as for Japan losing tourist to this, you picked the wrong country to threaten with “Fine, I won’t come back!”… If more countries made it that hard to get in, the world would be better off.
i think this is a fine idea.
This is a great idea and is great use of the electronic age….I am Irish and when i enter the US i am required to undergo an eye examination which i do without any problem. So come on Americans….it was the US who introduced Home Land Security after all and Japan is just securing its borders like everyone else.
