Sumo Tournament in Nagoya

Thursday June 28, 2007
The annual sumo tournament in Nagoya (nagoya basho) is held from July 8 to July 22 at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. If you are visiting Nagoya soon, it's a great chance to see sumo. Various reserved seats are still available. Non-reserved tickets are the cheapest and cost 2,800 yen per adult. The cheapest tickets need to be purchased on the same day as the game you want to see.

I am visiting Tokyo from the 11th July 2008 to the 16th July 2008 and as a day trip was wanting to take the Bullet Train to Nagoya to see the Sumo @ Nagoya Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. Would this be a good day trip or far too much to fit into one day? Should I book this from the Hotel as I read that you can only book at the Gymnasium in Japanese.
Any tips?

Hi, it’s not a bad idea.
It takes about 100 minutes by Shinkansen Nozomi to Nagoya from Tokyo.
The annual July sumo tournament in Nagoya will be held from July 13 to July 27 this year (in 2008).
Once you get to Japan, you can buy tickets at convenience stores, such as Seven Eleven and Lawson, and Ticket Pia, and so on.
Have a nice trip!

Shizuko,

Thanks for that. We will take your advice and but the tickets beforehand. Looking forward to the Sumo.

Are tickets still available? I tried at Lawson and it didn’t work. Might be sold out?!

I don’t know why…
Weekday tickets should be still available. Try Family Mart or Circle K Sunkus stores near you.
I hope you can get tickets.
