Asakusa Nakamise Happy New Year! The period from New Year's Day to January 3rd or 7th is called shogatsu in Japan. Shogatsu is the most important holiday in Japan. Usually, people spend shogatsu at home with their families and visit a shrine or temple to pray for good fortune.
