Electricity in Japan

"I am visiting Japan for my first time in September... I was wondering how others from US converted their electronics (especially sensitve equipment such as laptops) in Japan. Also, are there any different or special cables I need for connecting to the internet in hotels and internet cafes?" Suggestions?
